The Road To LA…4 Weeks Out…🏋️✈️
Let me first start by saying that I am absolutely thrilled to be selected to represent the UK at the WNBF World Championships in LA on the 19th November. It is quite literally a dream come true.
It was only in January this year that I made the decision to take to the stage and compete. Since this time I have competed 3 times and to have the opportunity to stand on a World stage 11 months later quite frankly blows my mind.
It is now a week since the UKDFBA Finals and 4 weeks until the World Finals. So you would expect me to be super excited and motivated…
Well I am very excited but this week has been harder than I thought it would be.
I had a day of eating off plan and a couple of days off training, which is hard to imagine when I expected I’d be ready to get back in the gym and smash it, and be ready to get my head down and work my socks off.
I could tell you this is how I’ve been feeling but I would be lying. I’ve struggled to motivate myself…Yes, I said it, even I struggle to motivate myself. You would think with such an amazing opportunity ahead of me it would be easy…but hasn’t been.
How am I really feeling? Well some of these spring to mind…lazy, squidgy and undefined, hungry (or maybe I just want to eat), lacking in muscle, unworthy, ungrateful and maybe just a tad negative 😕
It happens to everyone. It’s impossible to jump out of bed every day ready to kill it. Everyone has self-doubt, this is normal. It is how we deal with this that is important.
What am I going to do about it?
Well I will start by reminding myself how far I have come and what I have achieved so far. I will speak to my coach who will be able to provide some objectivity. Are the things that I am feeling true? If so what can I do about them. Or are they in my head? If this is the case I need to overcome the mental battle. I will also talk to my husband who will probably just sit and listen but as they say a problem shared is a problem halved. Just by explaining how I feel will help me to put things into perspective.
So here are my top tips for getting your motivation back
– Remember what your goal is and why you are doing it.
– Think about how far you have come already.
– Speak to your Coach (if you have one) or just a supportive family member or friend. They can provide you with some objectivity or simply just listen to you and let you unload.
– Don’t beat yourself up for not feeling super motivated every day…you are only human.
– Have a good sleep and get yourself ready for a new day and a new opportunity to be positive
On that note I’m off to bed 😴
